Unlike Nurses, where the requirements are more uniform, the processing of a Physical Therapist to work in the United States can be confusing unless you are aware of each state's credentialing and application processes.

The time line to petition a physical therapist will vary depending on the licensing requirements of the state, whether the physical therapist is already holding a license in the state of intended employment, and the type of immigration petition that will be filed. Given these factors it can take from 10-18 months before arrival.

All states recognize the National Physical Therapy Examination test results but not all states use the same credentialing agencies for recognizing the foreign PT's education. Most states accept the FCCPT ( Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy) but a few other states use the ICD ( International Consultants of Delaware) a division of CGFNS ( Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) and yet a few other states will accept other credentialing companies. New York is a unique state as they do their own credentialing but use the FCCPT to verify the education of the PT.

All states require the passing of TOEFL ( Test Of English as a Foreign Language) and TSE ( Test of Spoken English)
